At Master Artisans, we are dedicated to promoting Cambodia’s rich and unique artistic and cultural heritage, as well as global timeless treasures. At the heart of our commitment lies a meticulous tribute to generations of mastery and Khmer Buddhist iconography, with each of our Buddha statues and artworks standing as a one-of-a-kind and exclusive masterpiece.
Using traditional techniques passed down through generations, we present an exclusive collection that beautifully captures the spirit of Angkor and the timeless elegance of Khmer art, recognized as one of the most refined in the world. Every piece reflects the spiritual devotion and exceptional craftsmanship of our master artisans, embodying authenticity, centuries of tradition, and artistic excellence.
In addition to these remarkable statues of the Buddha, we curate a diverse collection of artworks spanning various origins and periods. This includes fine bronze replicas of masterpieces by iconic artists such as Auguste Rodin, Camille Claudel, Edgar Degas, and Alberto Giacometti, as well as antiques, vintage furniture, old posters, curios, and decorative pieces. Each work is carefully selected not only for its provenance, quality, and aesthetics but, above all, for the story it tells, offering a gateway to the past while celebrating the richness of the world’s cultural heritage.
From Paris to Angkor and Beyond
At the core of Master Artisans’ journey is François Heymann, a passionate adventurer inspired by a deep passion for people, cultural heritage, antique and vintage aesthetics. Born in Paris in 1963, François began his career in France’s financial market before relocating to Cambodia in 1994 to work in the humanitarian sector. This decisive move marked the beginning of a lifelong connection to the Kingdom and its people, where he has contributed to over 20 impactful social and educational projects, including establishing Cambodia’s first school for the blind.
Driven by his dedication to authenticity and meaningful connections, François founded Master Artisans in Siem Reap, at the iconic Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor. This initiative revitalizes traditional arts and master craftsmanship, empowering local artisans while celebrating Cambodia’s artistic traditions rooted in the pre-Angkorian and Angkorian eras.
Over the years, and for more than 20 years, François has carefully curated an extraordinary collection of artworks and unique objects through his global travels. This collection transcends Cambodia’s borders, featuring home artworks, antiques, vintage furniture, old posters, curios, and decorative items from diverse origins and periods, each offering a glimpse into the past and inspiring journeys through time.
François works closely with master sculptors, artisans, and antique dealers to establish Master Artisans as a premier destination for Khmer and Southeast Asian art, as well as for proposing cultural treasures from all around the world.
